Conor McGregor Disagrees with Dana White’s Timeline for UFC Return: ‘December is the Date’
Conor McGregor, the outspoken Irish mixed martial artist, has expressed his desire to return to the Octagon in 2024, contradicting UFC CEO Dana White’s earlier statement that McGregor won’t fight until at least 2025.
In a tweet, McGregor wrote, “Ah Dana, December is the date! Bring the calendar year home with a winning event! Come on now, what’s this? I am off to altitude next month to prepare. DECEMBER! Tell Dana and UFC WE WANT DECEMBER! WE DESERVE DECEMBER!”
This comes after White stated that McGregor won’t fight until at least 2025, citing the fighter’s recent injury and recovery period. McGregor, however, seems to be eager to return to the Octagon, having not competed since July 2021 when he broke his leg in a fight against Dustin Poirier.
The Irish superstar has been aligned with Michael Chandler for a matchup since early 2023, but the two were scheduled to fight at UFC 303, which McGregor withdrew from due to a toe injury. Since then, McGregor has voiced his eagerness to return, but it remains unclear if the injury or something else is the current reason for the delayed comeback.
Chandler, who has largely remained attached to the prospect of the McGregor fight, recently admitted to having thoughts of taking another fight instead. He has not competed since a November 2022 loss to Dustin Poirier.
This disagreement between McGregor and White highlights the ongoing uncertainty surrounding McGregor’s return to the UFC. While McGregor is eager to get back in the Octagon, White’s timeline suggests a longer wait. Only time will tell when McGregor will make his highly anticipated return.
