Kirk Franklin Reveals He Stopped Talking to His Mother at 32 Due to Emotional Trauma

Grammy-winning American gospel singer Kirk Franklin has shared a shocking revelation about his complicated relationship with his mother. In a recent appearance on the ‘Funky Friday’ podcast, the 54-year-old music star revealed that he stopped talking to his biological mother at the age of 32.

The incident that led to the breakdown in their relationship occurred when Franklin’s mother brought her new husband to a family meeting to help rehabilitate Franklin’s sister, who had just been released from prison. Franklin, who was 32 at the time, was the only one trying to help his sister with accommodation and other essential needs.

As the family meeting progressed, Franklin’s mother’s new husband interfered, telling Franklin that he needed to call his mother more often. This sparked a heated argument, during which Franklin’s mother did something that crushed his heart. She grabbed the man’s hand and walked out of the house with her two kids, leaving Franklin feeling betrayed and hurt.

Franklin recalled the incident, saying, “She took that man’s hand and walked out with him. And I promised myself that as a little boy I couldn’t protect myself but as a grown man I would never be put in a position where you would treat me like that again.”

Franklin’s decision to stop talking to his mother was a result of the emotional trauma he experienced during that incident. He has since maintained that he will never put himself in a similar situation again, where he would be treated with disrespect and disregard.

The revelation has sparked a wave of support for Franklin, with many fans and admirers expressing their admiration for his courage in sharing his personal story.
