Sudanese Peace Talks Gain Momentum as US Secretary of State Urges Swift Action
Washington, DC – In a crucial development, US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken has emphasized the need for swift action in ongoing peace talks in Switzerland to achieve full implementation of the Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan.
During a phone call with President of the Sovereign Council of Sudan and Commander-in-Chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Secretary Blinken reiterated the importance of participation in the peace talks to end the war and guarantee humanitarian access for millions of Sudanese suffering. The talks, co-hosted by Switzerland and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aim to reach compliance with the Jeddah Declaration, which includes a cessation of hostilities, humanitarian access, and the establishment of a mechanism to monitor implementation.
The Secretary underscored the urgent need for the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to end the war and ensure humanitarian access for those affected.
