WNBA All-Star Game Heads to Indianapolis for the First Time
The WNBA has announced that the 2025 All-Star Game will be held in Indianapolis, marking the first time the city will host the event. The league made the announcement on Thursday, with ESPN’s Alexa Philippou first reporting the news.
Indianapolis has a rich basketball history, having hosted the NBA’s All-Star weekend earlier this year. The city’s enthusiasm for basketball is evident, with the Indiana Fever, the local WNBA team, experiencing a surge in interest. The Fever selected Caitlin Clark, a former Iowa Hawkeyes star, with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft earlier this year.
Clark, who is college basketball’s all-time leading scorer, has been a standout player for the Fever this season, averaging 17.1 points, 8.2 assists, and 5.8 rebounds per game. She narrowly missed out on making Team USA for the Olympics this summer but impressed in Team WNBA’s win over Team USA in the All-Star Game.
The Fever’s success can be attributed to Clark and other young stars like Aliyah Boston and NaLyssa Smith. The team has set several WNBA viewership records and has 38 of their 40 regular season games on national television. They lead the league in attendance in both home and away games, with a 265% increase in attendance from last season, according to ESPN.
The Fever currently hold an 11-15 record, placing them seventh in the league standings and third in the Eastern Conference. They will resume their season on Friday against the Phoenix Mercury.
The last WNBA All-Star Game was held in Phoenix earlier this summer. Las Vegas has hosted the event three times in the past six years, and Chicago hosted it in 2022. Indianapolis will also host the men’s Final Four in 2026 and the women’s Final Four in 2028.
The WNBA All-Star Game is a highly anticipated event that brings together the league’s top players for a showcase of talent and entertainment. With Indianapolis hosting the event for the first time, fans can expect an exciting and memorable experience.
