Traffic Diversions Ahead: Lagos Government Plans Demolition of Pedestrian Bridge

In a bid to ensure the safe removal of an old pedestrian bridge in Ikeja Along Bus Stop, the Lagos State Government has announced plans to divert traffic on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway. The diversion is set to take place for two days, from Saturday, August 17, 2024, to Sunday, August 18, 2024, between 12 midnight and 4 am daily.

According to a statement released by the state Ministry of Transportation, the diversion is meant to allow workers to safely demolish the old pedestrian bridge in the area. During the period of the demolition, only one lane will be available to motorists traveling from Ile Zik Bus Stop up to Conoil Filling Station on the Oshodi-bound side of the road.

State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, assured motorists that the traffic diversion will not affect those traveling on the Dopemu/Abule Egba bound side of the road. He explained that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be on the ground to manage vehicular movement and minimize inconveniences.

Osiyemi urged motorists to be patient and exercise caution during the period of the closure. The lanes will be cordoned off with jersey barriers and protective nets to ensure the safety of motorists and commuters.

The Lagos State Government is committed to ensuring the safe removal of the old pedestrian bridge, and the temporary traffic diversion is a crucial part of that process. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and to follow the instructions of traffic officials to ensure a smooth flow of traffic.
