Raygun Speaks Out on Olympic Breakdancing Backlash

Australia’s Olympic Breakdancer Raygun Stands by Performance Amid Backlash

Rachael “Raygun” Gunn, the Australian Olympic breakdancer who made headlines for her lacklustre performance at the Paris games, has released a public statement addressing the backlash she has faced. In a video posted to Instagram, Raygun expressed her disappointment with the criticism she has received, saying she was “unprepared for the hate” that followed her Olympic debut.

Raygun explained that she had worked hard to prepare for the Olympics and was proud to be a part of the Australian team’s breakdancing debut. She asked viewers to refer to statements made by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), AUSBreaking, and the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) to clear up “allegations and misinformation” surrounding her selection for the team.

Despite her efforts to clarify the situation, comments on Raygun’s Instagram reel have been overwhelmingly unsympathetic. Many viewers have criticized Raygun for not owning up to her lacklustre performance, with some even questioning her academic background, including her PhD in breakdancing and dance culture.

The Australian Olympic Committee and AUSBreaking have voiced their support for Raygun, condemning an anonymous Change.org petition that called for “immediate accountability and transparency” regarding her selection for the team. The WDSF also released a statement saying it stands against any form of harassment or abuse, including cyberbullying.

The drama surrounding Raygun’s performance is likely to continue, but it’s clear that she is standing by her efforts and asking for respect and understanding from the public.
