A shocking incident has shaken the Irish military community as an army chaplain was stabbed by a teenager outside an army barracks in Galway, west of Dublin. According to police, the 50-year-old chaplain received several stab wounds during the late Thursday evening incident.

The chaplain, Paul Murphy, was rushed to a Galway hospital for treatment of injuries deemed to be serious but not life-threatening. The Irish national teenager, in his teens, was restrained by Defence Forces personnel at the scene and taken into custody.

The attack occurred when Murphy, a priest, was approached by the knife-wielding youth, as reported by the Irish Times newspaper. Murphy fled through the barracks gate, but his attacker pursued him. Sentries at the barracks responded by firing five warning shots and using a baton to subdue the attacker.
