Benue Governor Launches ‘Save the Benue Child’ Project to Combat Challenges
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has decried the challenges facing children in Benue and called for a joint effort to change the narrative. The governor made this call during the inauguration of the State Steering Committee on the ‘Save the Benue Child’ project, which aims to address the plight of children in the state.
The governor lamented that Benue children have over the years faced issues of lack of quality education, healthcare, and other challenges that put their lives at risk. However, he expressed hope that the project will provide an opportunity to effect meaningful change and forge a path towards hope and opportunity for these children.
The ‘Save the Benue Child’ project is a comprehensive support system that addresses the needs of children in Benue holistically. The project will focus on improving access to quality education, ensuring health and nutrition, identifying and rescuing child victims of human trafficking, child exploitation, and sexual abuse, and providing support services for vulnerable rescued children.
The project will also work to prosecute perpetrators and hold them accountable, raise awareness and sensitize communities on human trafficking and child exploitation, and provide the necessary support to safeguard the well-being of children.
Mrs. Gloria Bai, the Zonal Coordinator of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, called on all stakeholders to join hands to save the future of Benue children. She emphasized the importance of the project, stating that it is a pivotal moment in the state’s collective fight against human trafficking.
The number of human traffic incidents in the state is on the increase, according to the NAPTIP Commander. The ‘Save the Benue Child’ project aims to reverse this trend and ensure that children in the state are protected from the dangers of human trafficking.
The governor will work with local communities, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations to ensure that the project is both impactful and sustainable. The project’s success will depend on the collective efforts of all stakeholders to create a safer and more prosperous future for Benue children.
