Nigerian Singer Gnewzy Reveals $200,000 Ransom Paid for His Release

Kidnapped Nigerian Singer Reveals Ransom Paid for Freedom

Nigerian Afro pop singer, Emuemu Oghala Goodnews, known as Gnewzy, has revealed the shocking amount paid to secure his release after being kidnapped in April 2024. In an exclusive interview with HipTV, Gnewzy recounted his harrowing ordeal and revealed that a staggering $200,000 ransom was paid to secure his freedom.

Gnewzy was abducted along Eklat road in Ughelli, Delta state, while his manager and brother, Obas9ice, narrowly escaped the kidnappers. The abductors, who were dressed in police uniforms, contacted Dilly Umenyiora, Gnewzy’s record label CEO, via email demanding the hefty ransom.

According to Gnewzy, the kidnappers forced him to accompany them after performing at a listening party. On their way home, they were ambushed, and his brother was dragged out, told to run into the bush or risk being shot.

In the interview, Gnewzy shared the disturbing details of his captivity, revealing that he was covered with a cloth, given food, and told not to attempt any escape or he would be harmed. He did not suffer physical abuse during his detention.

Gnewzy was finally released on May 3, but not before the ransom was paid. His remarkable story serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers of kidnapping and the impact it can have on victims and their families.
