APGA Accuses Anambra State Governor of Plot to Disenfranchise Party in Local Government Elections
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), led by Edozie Njoku, has fired a salvo at Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, accusing him of plotting to disenfranchise the party in the upcoming local government elections. APGA claims that Soludo has been employing underhanded tactics to deny the party access to meeting venues for the planning of the council polls.
According to the party’s National Administrative Secretary, Okoro Chinedum Benedict, APGA has been subjected to harassment by thugs at meetings scheduled for party leaderships in preparation for the council polls. Despite APGA’s efforts to participate in the elections, Soludo has allegedly refused to allow the party to field candidates in the polls.
The party has accused Soludo of engaging in “morbid machinations” to diminish APGA and prevent the party from fielding candidates in the elections. APGA said it will not allow anyone to deny the long-suffering people in the hinterlands the benefits and good intentions of this brand new APGA.
In a statement, Okoro said: “Chief Edozie Njoku mandated this delegation of the National Working Committee (NWC) to inform you of his continued support and confidence in this special committee led by APGA National Secretary, Alhaji Muhyideen Imam.” Okoro also revealed that on August 7, 2024, the party wrote to ANSIEC, notifying them that INEC had recognized Chief Edozie Njoku and other executives elected at the Owerri Convention of May 31, 2019, as the authentic and rightful executives of APGA.
APGA has also introduced Hon. Chief Ikechukwu Hillary Ejesieme as Acting Chairman of APGA Anambra State and Hon. Sams Mogbo as Acting Secretary, urging ANSIEC to acknowledge them in official communications and relations regarding the LG polls. Despite this, officials of the party have been denied access to meeting venues for the planning of the forthcoming council polls.
APGA remains committed to participating in the local government elections and will resist any attempt to stop the party from doing so. As the party gears up for the elections, it remains to be seen how this dispute will play out in Anambra State.
