Cultist Arrested for Murder in Ogun State, Nigeria

The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of 34-year-old Adekunle Adebajo, also known as Kunle Polly, a suspected cultist accused of participating in the murder of a rival cultist, Mosquito, in Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State.

According to a statement issued by the state police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, Mosquito was hacked to death recently with his left hand cut off and taken away. The police received a distress call on August 12 from a concerned citizen who reported that rival cult members had engaged in a fight, resulting in Mosquito’s death.

Adebajo was arrested at 12:03 a.m. in his hideout at Isiwo, Ijebu, after credible information was provided by the public, which led the police to his location. During interrogations, Adebajo admitted to being a member of the Eiye confraternity and revealed that he was one of the killers of Mosquito.

The police recovered a Beretta pistol with six live rounds, two UTC axes, and charms from Adebajo’s residence during a search. An investigation is ongoing to unravel the pattern of severing the left hand of their victims and to arrest other criminals who fled the hideout.

The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has reassured the public that the era of cultism in the Isiwo Ijebu community has come to an end, promising that the remaining suspects will be brought to justice to account for their misdeeds.

This arrest comes just a day after the police arrested a 35-year-old wanted suspected cultist, Olamilekan Akojede, in Oja Odan, Yewa-North Local Government Area of the state. Akojede was the number one of the Alora confraternity and had been on the police watch list until his arrest. He was known for terrorizing the residents of the area before his arrest.

The police are working tirelessly to bring an end to cultism in the state and to ensure that those responsible for these heinous crimes are held accountable.
