Breaking News: President Bola Tinubu Approves Immediate Reconstruction of Wagga Bridge Linking Adamawa and Borno
President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate reconstruction of Wagga bridge linking Adamawa and Borno states, said Mohammed Goni, director-general of the North East Development Commission (NEDC). The decision follows the bridge’s collapse for the second time in two months, leaving many inhabitants of the affected areas in chaos.
According to Mr. Goni, during the first inspection, an assessment was conducted, but unfortunately, the bridge has completely collapsed this time. Despite the challenges posed by frequent rainfall, which may delay the immediate commencement of work, Mr. Goni assures that alternative solutions will be provided to facilitate smooth movement of vehicles on the road.
Residents have been struggling to access essential goods and services since the bridge collapsed on Thursday afternoon due to heavy rainfall. Mohammed Saidu, a local resident, confirmed the incident and pleaded with the federal and state governments to urgently come to their aid.
Mr. Goni has also assured residents that other damage culverts along the road will be reconstructed. Notably, those involved in agriculture in the area may face significant difficulties when harvest commences.
This decisive move by President Tinubu is expected to ease the hardship faced by thousands of people, particularly farmers, who depend on the road for trade and economic activities.
In addition to the reconstruction, alternative solutions are being considered to mitigate the effects of this incident on the daily lives of commuters.
