Delta State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice‑presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa said that the party’s presidential nominee, Atiku Abubakar, will steer Nigeria back toward greatness if elected on February 25. Speaking at the inauguration of the Bayelsa Health Insurance House in the state secretariat complex in Yenagoa, Okowa warned that the “ship of state” was rapidly sinking under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) because of poor governance. He added, “I know that with all of us working together as a people and as a nation, we can begin to turn things around and realise our dream of a Nigeria we can boast about and be proud of. There is no doubt that APC governance has tended to sink the ship of our nation, but by the special grace of God we will redirect it to float again and move forward to fulfil the purpose God has set for our people. God did not plan for Nigerians to suffer.”

In a separate development, Bayo Onanuga, Director of Media and Publicity for the Tinubu‑Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, described a recent gaffe by PDP National Chairman Dr Iyorchia Ayu as revealing his true sentiments. During a rally in Kano State, the former Senate President mistakenly shouted, “PDP has brought us shame and we will not retain them in power.” Although Ayu quickly corrected himself on the live broadcast, the remark went viral and trended on numerous online platforms. Onanuga argued, “Ayu’s verdict on his own party should not be seen as a mere slip of the tongue. It reflects the inner mindset of the former academic and Senate President—a self‑admission of the egregious failures of the party during its 16‑year tenure. Ayu’s statement that ‘PDP has brought us shame and we will not retain them in power’ aligns with the broader view that the party has failed the country and its people and should never be given a chance to return to power.”
