Amosun Fires Back at Utomi’s Contract Allegations

Ibikunle Amosun, a former governor of Ogun State in Nigeria, has responded to allegations of contract violation leveled against him by economist Pat Utomi. Utomi had claimed that Amosun’s administration breached a contract agreement with him, which allegedly led to financial losses.

However, in a swift rebuttal, Amosun has dismissed Utomi’s claims, labeling him an “entitled person.” In a statement, Amosun claimed that before he took office, the Ogun State House of Assembly had passed a personal non-grata resolution against Utomi, which led to the former governor’s curiosity about the matter.

Amosun further explained that when Utomi complained about an ongoing construction project, the governor dispatched a team to investigate and concluded that the land was not suitable for the project. He alleged that Utomi had already spent only N35m to N50m on the construction and refused to relocate the project.

Amosun claimed that he refused to yield to Utomi’s demands for N200 million in damages, as the investment did not benefit the state. He challenged journalists and others to verify the claims and asked what benefit the project would have been to Ogun State.

In a statement, Amosun emphasized his commitment to transparency and accountability during his tenure, saying he has no regrets about his decisions. “Nobody can talk me down in order to look good,” he stated.
