Rangers Coach Confident of Win in CAF Champions League Qualifiers
In a convincing 1-0 victory over US Zilimadjou of Comoros, Nigerian champions Enugu Rangers have taken control of their CAF Champions League preliminary round encounter. The team’s head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, is optimistic about their chances of success, stating that they will do the double over their opponents.
The first leg of the encounter took place on Sunday, with Frank Uwumiro netting the decisive goal in the 22nd minute with a well-timed header. Ilechukwu highlighted his team’s dominance in the first half, expressing disappointment that they did not capitalise on their opportunities to score more goals, which would have made the second half attack from their opponents less relevant.
Rangers Coach Reflects on First Leg
In his post-game interview, Ilechukwu stressed that his team’s control in the first half was evident, and they could have finished the game off with an even bigger margin. However, he also acknowledged that they allowed their opponent to gain momentum in the second half.
“We lowered our guard in the second stanza and they came out to attack but we stood out to see off the encounter,” said Ilechukwu.
While the coach believes that his team have a lot to work on before the second leg, he remains confident about their ability to secure a win. As he stated, “We will go back to the drawing board to prepare very well for the return leg and we are positive going forward.”
The return leg of the tie is set to take place, with both teams eager to secure a positive outcome and advance to the next stage of the competition.
