Benue PDP Congresses Marred by Irregularities, Says Pro-PDP Group
In a recent press conference, the Benue Progressives Patriot (BPP) led by former Speaker Pro Tempore of the Federal House of Representatives, Terngu Tsegba, announced that the local government congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) did not take place in Benue State. Tsegba made this declaration at a World Press Conference held on Sunday in Makurdi.
According to Tsegba, the group condemned the irregularities that occurred during the ward congresses, which were allegedly orchestrated by associates of Samuel Ortom, the state governor. The results from these private home-based congresses, they claimed, were fabricated and unacceptable. The BPP urged the National Secretariat of the PDP to annul the flawed exercise and ensure that results approved by local populations are accepted and adopted before proceeding to local government congresses.
During the press conference, Tsegba also criticized the Appeal Panel, led by Bode Ojo, for failing to address the grievances related to the ward congresses and called for reprimands against those involved. The BPP reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of the PDP, despite provocations from elements aiming to disrupt the party.
In a unified statement, BPP members including Paul Ubwa, David Tsevende, Hon. Fanen Mondo, Aluashima Abari, and Dr. Jack Mulya emphasized that Samuel Ortom’s associates should not be allowed to destroy the PDP. They also vowed that any list coming from Sen. Abba Moro and Samuel Ortom would be rejected and strongly opposed unless the will of the people is respected at all levels.
This move by the BPP adds another layer of controversy to the PDP’s internal struggles, as party leaders continue to navigate the complex political landscape of Nigeria.
