Federal Government Extends Deadline for Civil Servants to Verify their Information on IPPIS Portal

In its latest move to curb salary fraud, the Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the deadline for federal civil servants to verify their identities on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) portal. The new deadline is set for Friday, August 23, 2024, giving employees who have yet to update their information an additional week to comply.

The extension comes after President Bola Tinubu gave a directive to all civil servants drawing salaries from the government while living abroad to refund the money they have fraudulently collected. The President also emphasized the need for the government to hold accountable those who aided and abetted such fraudulent activities.

The IPPIS management signed the new circular, which was sighted by our correspondent on Sunday, confirming that the process of collating and validating all submitted information has commenced. The circular emphasized that employees who fail to comply with the circular by the deadline will be suspended from the payroll.

This development is a follow-up to the government’s initial directive for all employees registered on the IPPIS system to update their details in order to curb salary fraud. A two-week extension was previously given to employees, which ended on August 15, 2024.

This move is aimed at addressing the problem of civil servants drawing salaries without formally resigning, as a citizen living abroad recently reported continuing to receive his monthly pay despite having left the country years earlier.
