INEC Announces PVC Collection Dates for Edo State Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed August 22nd to September 8th, 2024, for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Edo State ahead of the September 21st Governorship Election. According to INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Commission will not deal with proxies, and only valid registrants will be given their PVCs.

The PVC collection exercise is a result of the conclusion of the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) in Edo and Ondo States. During the CVR, a total of 119,206 new voters were registered in Edo State, while 8,847 voters transferred their registration from other states to Edo, and 46,171 voters transferred their registration within the state.

The Commission has also updated the records of 4,808 voters who applied for corrections to their names, addresses, or dates of birth, and replaced 5,406 lost or damaged PVCs. A total of 184,438 voters of various categories were served by the Commission during the last CVR in Edo State, and they will be issued new voters’ cards.

Prof. Yakubu revealed that all the PVCs have been printed and delivered to the INEC office in Benin City, from where they have been handed over to Electoral Officers (EOs) for collection by voters. The Commission has also developed a register containing the names and photographs of the 184,438 voters to ease the collection of their PVCs.

The INEC boss further stated that the Commission is working on the schedule for the collection of PVCs in Ondo State, which will be announced in due course. He assured the electorate in Ondo State that action is being taken to ensure the availability of their PVCs for the governorship election in November this year.

With the PVC collection dates announced, eligible voters in Edo State are advised to visit the INEC office in Benin City to collect their cards.
