AI Helps ADHD Individuals Manage Tasks and Overwhelm

Becky Litvintchouk, an entrepreneur living with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), never thought she could handle the mountain of tasks required to succeed in her sanitary wipes business. ADHD, which affects her ability to focus, has always been a challenge for Litvintchouk. But then she turned to artificial intelligence (AI) tools, and her life changed for the better.

Litvintchouk uses the Claude app to analyze contracts, create business plans, and stay organized. “It’s been an extremely useful tool,” she said. “I probably wouldn’t be where I am today” without it. Experts agree that AI can help people with ADHD complete tasks faster, but they caution that it should not replace traditional treatment and raise concerns about overreliance and invasion of privacy.

“I’m not trying to create a cure, but something that helps them for two minutes of the day that would otherwise cause them problems,” said Bram de Buyser, software engineer and creator of Goblin.tools, which provides users with a list of tasks and can break them down into smaller, more manageable steps.

However, some experts express concerns about the potential biases in AI-generated responses. Russell Fulmer, a professor at Husson University, pointed out that the research on AI and ADHD is still inconclusive and that AI-generated responses can be racist and biased. Valese Jones, a publicist and founder of Sincerely Nicole Media, who has ADHD, agreed that the responses generated by AI tools often fail to capture the tone and essence of diverse voices.

Despite these concerns, many people with ADHD are embracing AI technology as a helpful tool to manage their lives. Emily Kircher-Morris, a counselor who specializes in neurodivergent patients, uses AI tools to help her clients with ADHD and finds them “very helpful.” She encourages clients to explore AI technology, but also to use it cautiously and responsibly.

In conclusion, AI is increasingly being used to help individuals with ADHD manage their tasks and overwhelm. While experts agree that AI can be a helpful tool, it is essential to use it responsibly and carefully consider the potential biases and limitations. As Litvintchouk puts it, “AI can help people with ADHD break down large tasks into smaller, more manageable steps. It’s an empowering tool that can help us take control of our lives.”
