TikTok’s Songs of the Summer: A Soundtrack to the End of Summer
As the summer draws to a close, TikTok has officially declared its songs of the summer, a list of the platform’s most popular tracks that have soundtracked the longest days of the year. The season’s winding down, and FYPs are slowly morphing from Euro trips and Brat summer to back-to-school hauls and tips for being mindful and demure.
According to TikTok, the most popular track in the U.S. this summer was “MILLION DOLLAR BABY (VHS)” by Tommy Richman, which has been soundtracked by a whopping 7.5 million videos. The song’s impact extends beyond its viral snippet, as it also appeared on Spotify’s global midsummer list. Richman’s song is followed by the endlessly meme-ed “Nasty” by Tinashe, Blood Orange’s 2011 track “Champagne Coast,” “Magic Johnson” by ian, and “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” by Billie Eilish, which round out the Top 5.
Meanwhile, Mashable reports that the ranking Sabrina Carpenter track isn’t “Espresso,” but instead her follow-up single “Please, Please, Please.” GloRilla and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Wanna Be” and Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track “Not Like Us” also earned their spots in the Top 10.
Globally, “Gata Only” by FloyyMenor and Cris MJ took the top spot. Despite her undeniable cultural impact this summer, no Charli XCX songs ranked on either list. The lack of “Espresso” and Brat tracks has left many wondering what creators thought when selecting a song to soundtrack their summer highlights.
With the summer coming to a close, TikTok’s songs of the summer provide a nostalgic look back at the season’s most popular tracks. Whether you’re a fan of Tommy Richman’s viral hit or Billie Eilish’s latest release, there’s something for everyone on this list.
