Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria Cries Out Over Lack of Supply from Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has expressed concern over the lack of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) supply from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). According to Engr Shina Amoo, Chairman of IPMAN, Ore Depot, the association’s members are not receiving adequate supply of PMS, which has led to a scarcity of products across the country.
Amoo, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Tuesday, revealed that the NNPCL, which is the sole importer of petroleum products, has failed to supply IPMAN members with sufficient products to cater to their activities over the past three years. He stated that the current supply pattern is not well distributed, and that IPMAN members are not being considered for supply.
Amoo explained that the private depots are selling products to IPMAN members at premium prices, ranging from ₦750 to ₦850 per litre. He added that none of the IPMAN members have been able to get products from NNPCL for over 2-3 years, and that the process of accessing products has become lengthy and bureaucratic.
The chairman attributed the major problem to fuel subsidies and the NNPCL’s role as the sole importer. He believes that if corruption is removed from the downstream system, prices of products would be forced to drop. Amoo also mentioned that the removal of subsidies has led to a rise in prices of products at the depots.
The IPMAN chairman’s remarks have sparked concerns over the impact of the scarcity on the economy and the welfare of Nigerians. The situation has also raised questions about the efficiency of the NNPCL’s supply chain and the effectiveness of the government’s policies in addressing the issue.
As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the government and the NNPCL will address the concerns of IPMAN and ensure a stable supply of petroleum products to the country.
