Liberty Hand Coach Brondello Birthday Victory Over Wings
The New York Liberty celebrated coach Sandy Brondello’s birthday in style, defeating the Dallas Wings 94-74 on Tuesday night. Breanna Stewart led the way with 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Jonquel Jones and Courtney Vandersloot also had double-doubles.
The Liberty dominated the game from start to finish, taking a 48-39 lead at halftime and never looking back. Jones had 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Vandersloot added 15 points and 11 assists. Kennedy Burke chipped in with 13 points off the bench, helping to offset the absence of Sabrina Ionescu, who sat out with a sore neck.
Satou Sabally led the Wings with 24 points, giving her 44 in two games since returning from the Olympics. Arike Ogunbowale added 17 points, including 13 in the second quarter, and Natasha Howard had 13. Maddy Siegrist had six points in her return from a broken finger.
The Liberty responded to a late push from the Wings, scoring 14 unanswered points to take a 94-74 lead. The teams will meet again on Thursday.
In a unique twist, the Chelsea women’s soccer team, which defeated Gotham 3-1 earlier in the day, watched the game between the two WNBA teams.
