Obamas Endorse Kamala Harris at Democratic National Convention

Michelle Obama and Barack Obama Endorse Kamala Harris for US Presidency

In a powerful speech, Michelle Obama and her husband, former US President Barack Obama, gave resounding endorsements of Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Tuesday night. The Obamas urged the 50,000 attendees and the American people to support Harris as the next president of the United States, criticizing Republican candidate Donald Trump’s policies and rhetoric as a “limited and narrow view” of the world.

Michelle Obama, the former First Lady, criticized Trump’s leadership as “backward” and “demean[ing] and cheapen[ing] our politics.” She argued that accepting such leadership would only discourage good people from getting involved in politics and that Americans deserve better.

Barack Obama echoed his wife’s sentiment, stating that there is “no other choice” than Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, for the November presidential election. He urged Americans not to be complacent about politics and to work hard to elect Harris as the next president. The Obamas warned that the path ahead would be difficult, but they expressed confidence that if Americans worked together, they could achieve a better future.

If elected, Kamala Harris would become the first woman, first Black, and first South Asian person to be elected US president. Michelle Obama highlighted the significance of this moment, noting that the United States is “ready for a new chapter” and a “better story” than Trump could offer.

The Obamas also emphasized the importance of voting, urging Democrats to turn out in large numbers in the November election. With Trump still retaining a strong hold on his loyal base, it is expected to be a tight race. Nevertheless, the Obamas’ endorsement could boost Harris’s chances of becoming the next president of the United States.
