Nyesom Wike Credits President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Support for Success as FCT Minister

Abuja, Nigeria – Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the unwavering support he has received, which has enabled him to succeed in his role.

Speaking during a media parley with select journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Wike praised President Tinubu for providing him with everything he needs to work and succeed as FCT Minister. He emphasized that the president has not interfered with the running of the FCT, instead, standing by him in difficult decisions.

Wike described the ongoing provision of infrastructure in the FCT as a revolution, which he believes could not have been achieved without the strong leadership and backing of the president. He highlighted several key policy initiatives that have contributed to the translation of the Renewed Hope Agenda into dividends of good governance in the FCT, including the withdrawal of the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission, and the inclusion of youths and women in governance.

According to Wike, President Tinubu has given him the freedom to make decisions without interference, saying, “Mr President has given me everything I require to work as far as the FCT is concerned. I don’t have any excuse or excuses not to perform because everything I require has been given to me.”

Wike also emphasized that the president’s non-interference has allowed him to operate effectively, stating, “Luckily for me, Mr. President has never one day interfered in anything concerning FCT. Never. There are some decisions I make that I know will not go down well with some people and I believe that Mr. President may summon me for this. But I go to him and say I have made this decision and he says, ‘I put you there so that you would be able to make such decisions.'”

Wike concluded by saying that he is one minister who should not complain, as he has the necessary support to perform his duties effectively.
