Taiwanese Military Officials Sentenced to Prison for Leaking Classified Information to China

Eight retired and active members of the Taiwanese military have been sentenced to prison for leaking classified information to China. The sentences ranged from one and a half years to 13 years, with the accused being handed down punishments for violating the National Security Law, delivering classified information, and accepting bribes.

According to prosecutors, some of the defendants had even cooperated with China by filming a video titled “I Will Surrender to the People’s Liberation Army” and pledged their allegiance to Beijing. The video was delivered to China in exchange for payment.

The case involved 10 people in total, with one person being acquitted and another person failing to show up for trial and currently wanted for arrest. The eight convicted individuals can still appeal their sentences.

The investigation centered around the Taiwanese Army’s Aviation and Special Forces Command, Taiwan’s special operations force. The scandal is considered a significant breach of national security and a major blow to the trust and confidence of the Taiwanese military.

This development highlights the delicate and complex relationship between Taiwan and China, with both sides accusing each other of espionage and sabotage. The Taiwanese authorities have taken swift action to address this matter, sending a strong message that treason and betrayal will not be tolerated.
