Microsoft Confirms Indiana Jones Exclusivity on Xbox Series S/X, Game Pass, and PC
In a major development, Microsoft announced this week that its highly-anticipated, triple-A exclusive game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, will be a timed-exclusive title on Xbox Series S/X, Game Pass, and PC, releasing on December 9th. The action-adventure title will subsequently arrive on PlayStation 5 early next year.
During a recent YouTube interview on Xbox On alongside Xbox president Sarah Bond, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer elaborated on the decision to make Indiana Jones exclusive to Xbox platforms. Spencer reiterated the company’s focus on growing its game lineup, citing the success of prior launches. “We want to continue to grow the strength of our franchises, and by launching these games on multiple platforms, we’re taking a step back to reassess our business model.”
Spencer made it clear that the gaming division requires accountability and must run efficiently, particularly given the vast support provided by Microsoft. “At the end of the day, we get amazing support from the company, but the bar is high for what we have to deliver back to Microsoft. And I think it just comes down to how can we continue to grow our platform, have a growing player base and strong franchises, and make this a winning strategy for our business?”
While Spencer was cagey about the broader implications for exclusive titles, hinting at further multi-platform support for Xbox games, industry insiders have expressed similar expectations. Yet, more clarity is needed before the Xbox gaming community can begin speculating on the future of exclusive game releases.
In related news, Xbox will not be the only PlayStation 5 arrival, as MachineGames and publisher Bethesda announced yesterday that another title, Doom: The Dark Ages, will now release simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. As a result, excitement around Microsoft’s gaming division reaching a broader audience continues to build anticipation.
Game director Jerk Gustafsson echoed the sentiment following the initial announcement, stating, “We want everybody to be able to enjoy this adventure” – suggesting that the decision-making process revolves around ensuring engaging gaming experiences reach a wider consumer base. With Indiana Jones on the horizon and Microsoft’s commitment to growth remaining paramount, Xbox fans eagerly wait for further insight into the company’s trajectory.
