Pras Clears the Air on Fugees’ Tour Cancellation
In a recent interview, Pras, a member of the Fugees, has shed light on the sudden cancellation of the North American leg of their reunion tour earlier this month. The group, which consists of Pras, Lauryn Hill, and Wyclef Jean, abruptly cancelled the tour just days before the show was set to take place, leaving fans stunned and disappointed.
Pras’s Frustration
Pras expressed his frustration with the cancellation, stating that he had released a song called “Bar Mitzfa” which some interpreted as a diss track aimed at Lauryn Hill. However, he clarified that the song is not a diss track and was simply a reflection of his truth.
“I want to preface this by saying it’s not a diss track,” Pras explained. “You’re family, you have internal disagreements, but it’s not going to be on a level where I’m dissing her — that doesn’t make any sense. Artistically speaking, sometimes we say things because that’s how we express ourselves. This track is me speaking my truth. When I was writing the record, those lines just came out.”
Pras’s Shock and Disappointment
Pras also shared his shocked reaction to the tour’s partial cancellation. “I was both surprised and not surprised,” he said. “Last year, there were supposed to be 20 shows, and we did ten. They were all sold out, but ten extra shows needed to be done that she canceled. Now you put shows on sale this year, and people are like, ‘How do we know this is not gonna be canceled?’ The fans are saying, ‘It’s summertime, school’s about to come, I gotta buy supplies for my kids, there’s inflation.’ There’s so much you have to coordinate in your life. To go through that process for her to turn around and say, ‘Oops, canceled.’…”
Lauryn Hill’s Statement
Lauryn Hill released a statement after the cancellation, expressing her disappointment and sadness. “Performing for my fans is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time,” she said. “Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform that I am.”
The Future of the Fugees
The cancellation of the North American leg of the tour has left fans wondering what the future holds for the Fugees. While there are still plans for the European leg of the tour, it remains to be seen if the group will continue to perform together in the future.
