Ryan Reynolds Calls for More Blade After Wesley Snipes’ Return to the Franchise
Ryan Reynolds, the Canadian actor known for his role in the Deadpool franchise, is urging Marvel Studios to give fans more Blade content after Wesley Snipes’ recent return to the franchise. Almost a month after the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, a billion-dollar hit movie, Reynolds took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes photo with Snipes, praising the actor’s secret cameo in the film.
The reaction to Snipes’ entrance in the movie was described by Reynolds as the “most intense thing I’ve heard in a theater.” He captioned the photo, “The reaction when @realwesleysnipes enters the movie is the most intense thing I’ve heard in a theater. People screaming with uninhibited joy and love is also the sound of a legacy.” Reynolds also added, “More Blade please. #DayWalker. A Logan-style send off, specifically.”
Snipes recently shared his experience reprising his iconic role in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He explained that Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige had been in contact with him over the years, but nothing ever materialized until Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, the company that once owned the movie rights to Blade, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, and Daredevil. Snipes recalled receiving a text from Ryan Reynolds after the acquisition, saying, “I want to talk to you,” and the rest was a billion-dollar history.
The acquisition of 20th Century Fox allowed Marvel Studios to bring back the characters and their respective franchises, including Blade. Marvel Studios has been attempting to make their own Blade movie for five years, with Mahershala Ali cast as the next Blade in July 2019. However, the movie has undergone a litany of changes, including adding new directors and screenwriters.
In June, Ali’s attorney, Shelby Weiser, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the unbelievable amount of issues with the film, saying, “That deal was in 2019, and they still haven’t shot it, which is pretty much the craziest thing in my professional experience.”
With Snipes’ return to the franchise and Reynolds’ call for more Blade content, fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment of the Blade franchise.
