Alabama Kicker Transfer Sparks Controversy

Miami (OH) kicker Graham Nicholson has transferred to Alabama, leaving his former head coach Chuck Martin feeling frustrated and accusing the Crimson Tide of “stealing” his player.

In an interview with Miami Sports Network, Martin expressed his discontent, stating, “We didn’t lose him, he’s at Alabama. We know exactly where he’s at. Again, you media people, it’s all pretend. Like, no, Alabama stole our kicker. They illegally recruited our kicker and stole him from us and that’s a fact, but we act like it’s not.”

Martin’s comments sparked a response from Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, who denied any wrongdoing, saying, “I don’t know anything about that, that comment. He entered the portal and we reached out to him. That’s how it goes, right? So we did everything we were supposed to do.”

Nicholson, a 21-year-old Lou Groza Award winner, is set to replace Will Reichard, a five-year starter under Nick Saban who earned SEC Special Teams Player of the Year honors last season and graduated as the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer.

The transfer has raised eyebrows, with some questioning the circumstances surrounding Nicholson’s departure from Miami (OH). While it’s not uncommon for Group of Five All-Americans to transfer to big-time programs, Martin’s accusations of “stealing” have sparked controversy.

As the college football world continues to navigate the complexities of the modern NIL era, the transfer of Graham Nicholson to Alabama has become a hot topic of discussion.
