Edo State Governorship Candidate Defects to APC, Endorses Senator Monday Okpebholo

Less than a month after the governorship election in Edo State, Dr. Dennis Osahon Aikorogie, the candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), has withdrawn from the race and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). Aikorogie made the announcement at a rally organized by the APC at the Textile Mill road in Benin City on Friday.

The former NRM governorship candidate cited his desire to put the state on the path of progress as the reason for his defection to the APC. At the rally, Aikorogie declared his support for Senator Monday Okpebholo, the APC’s governorship candidate, and his deputy, Dennis Idahosa.

"I am here today to lend my support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa," Aikorogie said. "I am coming with my teeming supporters, my members, and my party faithful to come and lend our support for the candidacy of Monday Okpebholo because we believe in his person because he is reliable and he is a doer."

Aikorogie emphasized that this time around, the people of Edo State need leaders who can deliver results, not just talk. He praised Senator Okpebholo for his track record of relating with the people, even before he became a senator.

"Someone like him as governor who has sympathy for the people and not people who came all the way from the blues and want to govern the state without any track record of human relationship or corporate social responsibility for the people," Aikorogie said.

The former NRM governorship candidate also disclosed that over 5,000 of his followers would be defecting to the APC with him. He urged the people of Edo State not to be deterred by what is happening at the federal government level and to trust in Senator Okpebholo’s ability to lead the state to greater heights.

"We are going to experience economic development, youth employment, infrastructure development, and a lot more. We must redeem Edo State from corporate brigandage," Aikorogie added.

Aikorogie believes that if Senator Okpebholo can perform wonderfully well as a senator, he still has the capacity to turn the fortune of the state around if voted as the governor of the state.
