Nigerian Leader Urges Value Orientation Change and Morality to Combat Corruption and Decay

Dr. Soye Peniel Asawo, National President of the Men’s Missionary Union of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, has called for a value orientation change and morality in the way of life for Nigerians. Asawo made this appeal at the weekend after the close of the 44th annual congress of the Men Missionary of the Nigerian Baptist Convention.

According to Asawo, Nigerians of all strata must stop compromising and frontally fight corruption. He emphasized that not only the leadership of the country is responsible for the rot and decay in the country, but also civil servants and ordinary Nigerians. Asawo pointed out that one kobo cannot be stolen from the government treasury without the collaboration of the civil servants.

The Nigerian leader also criticized the country’s economy, stating that the naira is becoming valueless. He advocated for measures to pick up the value of the national currency, rather than increasing wages, as many Nigerians go to bed hungry due to the badly managed economy. Asawo further emphasized that leaders at all levels should make sacrifices, as it is pointless to ask the masses to make sacrifices while leaders are swimming in affluence.

Asawo also expressed concern over the spate of insecurity in the country, calling on the president to give marching orders to the heads of various security agencies to restore peace, law, and order. In the 2027 general election, Asawo warned that it would be a futile exercise unless the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is changed.

The Nigerian leader emphasized that a true, transparent, and fair election can only be conducted by men and women of integrity. He maintained that it is wrong to solely blame politicians for the decay in the country, and that all stakeholders must take responsibility for the country’s problems.

Asawo’s call for value orientation change and morality comes at a time when Nigeria is grappling with numerous challenges, including corruption, economic decay, and insecurity. His words serve as a reminder that the solution to the country’s problems lies not only with the leadership, but also with the actions and attitudes of all Nigerians.
