Suspended PMAN President Pretty Okafor Accuses NWC of “Greed and Selfishness”

Pretty Okafor, the suspended President of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN), has accused the National Working Committee (NWC) of “greed and selfishness” following his indefinite suspension by the committee. Okafor made the allegation in a five-minute video response sent to Channels Television, in which he reacted to the allegations of unconstitutional actions, financial misconduct, and violation of constitutional duties leveled against him.

According to Okafor, his suspension was a result of his refusal to “share” money meant for the purchase of studio equipment, as well as allegations of cutting corners regarding the PMAN estate. He also claimed that he has been using his personal funds to run PMAN from inception, and that the NWC has not been reporting to work for close to a year.

In a letter addressed to the NWC, Okafor questioned the timing of his suspension, given that he had requested a loan from the PMAN Registration account pending the final payment from Olusco Heritage Properties. He also highlighted instances where members of the NWC took loans from PMAN without repaying, and accused them of not being interested in bringing in businesses to PMAN.

Okafor also detailed his plans for a business trip to Spain, where he would be meeting with funders and discussing the Afrobeats and Nollywood festival happening in summer 2025. He stated that PMAN did not have the budget to accommodate his trip and that none of the NWC members could afford to make their own sacrifices to meet the demand of the meetings outside Nigeria.

In his video response, Okafor accused the NWC of “selfishness” and claimed that they were only interested in personal gains, rather than working for the betterment of PMAN. He also questioned the motivation behind his suspension, stating that he believed it was a result of his refusal to share the funds meant for the purchase of studio equipment.

The development has sparked controversy within the music industry, with many calling for clarity on the matter. The suspended PMAN President has called on his members to remain calm and await further developments.
