New Commander Takes Over 17-Brigade in Katsina

Babatunde Omopariola, a brigadier-general, has officially assumed duty as the new Commander of the 17-Brigade, Katsina, and Commander Sector ‘2’ Joint Task Force Northwest “Operation Hadarin Daji”, JTF NW OPHD. The handing over ceremony took place on Friday at the Brigade Headquarters, Katsina Cantonment, along Jibia road, Katsina.

Omopariola succeeded Brigadier-Geneneral Oluremi Fadairo, who has been posted to 12-Brigade Lokoja as Commander. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the new commander expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the successful handing and taking over process and extended his appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, for entrusting him with the new role.

In his maiden address to the officers of the brigade, Omopariola commended Fadairo for his successful service record and expressed readiness to collaborate with all officers and soldiers to ensure lasting peace and stability within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility, AoR.

The event featured the signing of the Handing and Taking Over notes, the symbolic Handing Over of the Command Flag, and a Quarter Guard parade. Prior to his new appointment, Omopariola served as the chief of staff, Headquarters 6-Division Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt.

In his farewell address, Fadairo commended the officers and soldiers of the Brigade for their unwavering support and cooperation during his tenure. He urged them to maintain their commitment and discipline, and expressed confidence in Omopariola’s ability to lead the Brigade to even greater level.

With this development, Omopariola is expected to lead the Brigade to achieve its objectives and maintain peace and stability in the region.
