Nigerian Politician Calls for President’s Intervention to End Recurring Fuel Scarcity
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene and put an end to the recurring fuel scarcity in Nigeria. Speaking with journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye emphasized the urgent need for the President’s intervention due to the suffering Nigerians face almost monthly as a result of fuel scarcity.
Nigerians had hoped that the fuel scarcity would end after the Federal Government removed the fuel subsidy, but instead, the situation has worsened, causing untold hardship for Nigerians who now have to purchase fuel at very high prices. Oyintiloye urged President Tinubu to investigate the activities of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to uncover the root causes of the persistent fuel shortages.
While acknowledging the ongoing economic challenges, Oyintiloye stressed that inadequate fuel supply should not be added to the already tense situation. He noted that Nigerians have faced severe difficulties obtaining petroleum products at filling stations across the country and appealed to the President to rescue Nigerians who are enduring immense hardship due to the fuel scarcity.
Oyintiloye further expressed concern that fuel scarcity has become a routine part of daily life in Nigeria, which should not be the case. He stated that for the past few weeks, Nigerians have been sleeping at filling stations across the country, desperate to get fuel for their businesses and vehicles. Many stations do not have the product, and those that do sell it at exorbitant prices.
The APC chieftain also urged the President to do everything possible to revamp the country’s refineries, asserting that if the four Nigerian refineries were fully operational, fuel scarcity would become a thing of the past. He concluded that the burden on the masses is becoming unbearable and that there is an urgent need for the President’s intervention.
The recurring fuel scarcity has become a major concern for Nigerians, who are struggling to cope with the high prices and long queues at filling stations. The situation is not only affecting individuals but also businesses and the overall economy. It is hoped that President Tinubu will take immediate action to address the issue and alleviate the suffering of the Nigerian people.
