Lilly Allen Returns Adopted Puppy After It Eats Family’s Passports
British singer Lilly Allen has shared a shocking admission on her podcast ‘Miss Her?’: she returned an adopted puppy named Mary after it ate her family’s passports. The incident occurred during the 2020 coronavirus pandemic, when Allen was living in New York with her actor husband, David Harbour.
According to Allen, she and her husband had adopted the mischievous puppy, Mary, after adopting her during the pandemic. However, tragedy struck when Mary devoured not just one, but all three of their passports, including those of their two daughters, Ethel, 12, and Marnie, 11. The passports held their visas, and Allen revealed it cost a significant amount of money to replace them, citing the challenges of the pandemic period.
The singer described the incident as an “absolute logistical nightmare”, as it prevented her from taking their daughters to see their father in England. Feeling frustrated and helpless, Allen confessed to abandoning the puppy, stating, “I just couldn’t look at her. I was like, ‘You’ve ruined my life’.”
Mary’s misbehavior didn’t end with the passport incident. Allen revealed the puppy was “very badly behaved” and that she had tried hard to discipline her, but ultimately, the passports proved to be the final straw.
Despite the setback, Allen and her husband are considering adopting another puppy. Meanwhile, animal rights charity PETA has written an open letter to Allen, urging her to think twice before bringing another dog into her home.
PETA’s message emphasizes that dogs “should never be treated as accessories to be discarded when they become inconvenient”. With this incident serving as a harsh reminder, it remains to be seen whether Allen will heed PETA’s plea and reconsider her decision to adopt another furry companion.
