Nigeria’s Elite Celebrate Love: Notable Weddings in August 2024

August 2024 has been a month of joy and celebration for some of Nigeria’s prominent citizens as their children tied the knot in a series of high-profile weddings. In this report, PUNCH Online highlights some of the notable weddings that took place in August, featuring the children of Nigeria’s elite, including politicians and traditional rulers.

1. Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s Son Ties the Knot

The wedding season commenced on August 2 when Ashraf Adam, son of the reinstated Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, married Sultana, daughter of former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sulaiman Nazif. The wedding ceremony took place at the National Mosque in Abuja and was followed by a luxurious reception. The couple had a dedicated Instagram page, #Sash24, which provided a glimpse into the joyous occasion.

2. Governor Charles Soludo’s Daughter Gets Married

Two weeks later, on August 17, Ifeatu Adaora, daughter of Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, exchanged vows with Arinze Ibekwe in a beautiful white wedding ceremony. The traditional marriage was held earlier on August 10 at the governor’s hometown in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of the state, and was attended by several dignitaries, government officials, and traditional rulers. Soludo described the traditional marriage as the first in his family in the past 142 years, citing the scarcity of female children in his family until he broke the jinx, as God blessed him with four female children.

3. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s Daughter Weds

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also gave out his daughter, Laila, in marriage to Saleh Maitala on August 23 at the National Mosque in Abuja. The union was a culmination of a traditional process that began last year when Atiku hosted the groom’s family as they formally requested Laila’s hand in marriage.

4. IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s Son Ties the Knot

On the same day, Victor Egbetokun, son of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, got married to Anjolaoluwa Olaoluwakitan in Lagos. Vice President Kashim Shettima was also a special guest at the wedding.

The weddings were a testament to the joy and celebration that love brings, and PUNCH Online congratulates the newlyweds and their families on this significant milestone.
