Edo State Governorship Election: Asue-Ogie Campaign Warns Against Voting for Incompetent Candidate

As the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State draws near, the Asue-Ogie Campaign Management Council has cautioned the people of the state against voting for an incompetent candidate. The council made the call at a press conference in Benin City, urging citizens to critically evaluate the antecedents of political parties and their candidates before casting their votes.

According to Olu Martins, the deputy director-general of the council in charge of media, the council is reacting to a statement credited to Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who alleged that a woman was caught with packs of Permanent Voter Cards, PVC, in Ovia Federal Constituency. Oshiomhole also challenged Governor Godwin Obaseki and the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, to bury any thought of rigging the election.

Martins warned that the people of Edo State should not repeat the voting pattern that led to the defeat of former President Goodluck Jonathan to former President Muhammadu Buhari. He emphasized that the only candidate who can sustain and continue the achievements of outgoing Governor Obaseki is Barrister Asue Ighodalo.

The council urged political parties to allow candidates contesting the election to speak for themselves, so that voters can hold them accountable for their actions. Martins appealed to the people of Edo State to take their time to evaluate the candidates of Asue Ighodalo and Monday Okpebholo, emphasizing that the state is their project and they should not prioritize mediocrity over merit.

As the election approaches, the council is calling on the people of Edo State to exercise their civic responsibility and vote for a candidate who can bring about positive change and development to the state.
