Peoples Democratic Party Releases Guidelines for Local Government Election in Benue State

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has issued guidelines for the nomination of candidates for the upcoming Local Government election in the state. This follows the release of the election timetable by the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), which has slated the election for October 5.

According to the guidelines, signed by the Caretaker Committee Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Oryina Orvaa, the screening of aspirants will hold on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Councillship aspirants from Zone A will be screened at the London Galaxy Hotel in Adikpo at 10:00 am, while those from Zone B will screen at the PDP State Secretariat in Makurdi at the same time. Zone C aspirants will be screened at Leach Hotel in Otukpo at 10:00 am prompt.

Chairmanship aspirants who have purchased and submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms will be screened at the party headquarters in Makurdi on the same day.

On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, the conduct of primaries for Councillorship aspirants will take place at the various council ward headquarters, while those for Chairmanship aspirants will be held at the various local government area headquarters.

Hon. Orvaa noted that all appeals arising from the screening and conduct of the primaries will be heard on Thursday, August 28, 2024, at the party headquarters in Makurdi.

To participate in the screening and primaries, aspirants are required to submit all completed forms along with their tax clearance certificates, party membership and voters cards, photocopy of nomination and expression of interest forms, evidence of payment of handling charges, and academic qualifications, which must be presented during the screening.

With the guidelines now released, aspirants in Benue State are expected to proceed with the nomination process for the Local Government election.
