Human Rights Activist Claims Niger Delta Community Compromised

In a shocking revelation, a human rights activist in Nigeria’s Niger Delta region has accused the human rights community in Delta State of being compromised. Israel Joe, the activist, made the claim in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Warri.

According to Joe, the human rights community in Delta State is experiencing an unprecedented level of compromise. He alleged that many activists have abandoned their core duty of advocating for the rights of the people and instead prioritize their personal interests.

“What we have now is a shadow of rightfulness,” Joe said. “We have too many hungry activists who only advocate for their stomachs and not the rights of the people.”

Joe pointed to several instances where acclaimed activists in the state have allegedly covered up cases of rapes and defilements. He also cited cases of police extortion, which, he claimed, some activists have been reluctant to expose.

“We still have one or two extortions from Operation Delta Hawks on the ground of suspended CMR and others,” Joe said. “While some activists cover them up and even go as far as telling victims to pay, which we shall bring before the authorities.”

Joe’s allegations come on the heels of a recent protest, known as the EndHardshipProtest, where some activists openly campaigned against the protest and even joined community youths in beating up peaceful protesters.

The claims have sent shockwaves through the human rights community, sparking concerns about the integrity of advocates working in the region. As the matter unfolds, it remains to be seen what action will be taken to address the allegations and restore faith in the human rights movement in Delta State.
