Anambra State Takes Proactive Measures Against M-Pox, Confirms No Cases
Awka, Nigeria – Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, has announced that the state has not yet confirmed any case of M-Pox, a viral disease that has been reported in neighboring states. Obidike made this statement on Tuesday in Awka, while emphasizing the state’s proactive measures to prevent the spread of the disease.
The commissioner revealed that the ministry has activated Emergency Response Teams across the 21 Local Government Areas, deploying proactive measures and heightened vigilance following confirmed cases of M-Pox in neighboring states, including Ebonyi, Abia, and Delta. According to Obidike, the 16 suspected cases in Anambra whose samples were taken had returned negative.
Since the inception of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, the state has introduced emergency response teams, which have helped immensely in early detection of outbreaks and interventions. The state also has health informants, disease surveillance and notification officers in all 326 wards, which have been equally activated.
Obidike emphasized that the state government is prepared and currently improving on all areas, especially in the area of surveillance. The commissioner also notified public and private hospitals to create holding areas for isolation of suspected cases of M-Pox.
In addition, the ministry has commenced public sensitization to raise awareness, preventive measures, and symptoms of the disease. Obidike advised residents to imbibe personal hygiene and ensure prompt reporting of suspected cases, urging healthcare personnel to take the required precaution after attending to patients.
