Nigeria Police Force’s First Female Secretary Retires
Yetunde Longe, the first female Secretary of the Nigeria Police Force, has retired from the force after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60 years. The pulling-out ceremony was held at the Police College in Ikeja, where she was joined by police officers, family members, and friends.
Longe, who retired as an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), reflected on her journey in the force, saying she felt fulfilled serving in the Nigeria Police Force. She described her career as an incredible, fulfilling journey, dotted with formidable challenges.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, who was represented by Deputy Inspector-General of Police Abiodun Alabi, praised Longe’s professionalism and urged police officers to emulate her exemplary service. Egbetokun praised Longe’s bravery, commitment, and integrity, highlighting her unique position as the only female to have served as the Force Secretary.
Longe expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve alongside dedicated officers, committed to upholding the law and protecting communities across the country. She also thanked her colleagues, superiors, family, and friends for their support throughout her career, saying she would uphold the principles of service, integrity, and excellence in her future endeavors.
As she embarks on a new chapter in her life, Longe said she does so with a sense of optimism, excitement, and readiness for whatever challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
Longe’s dedication to duty and exemplary achievements in the force have made a significant impact, and the Inspector-General of Police acknowledged her unique position, saying, “You really impacted positively on the force. We are so proud of you.”
