Twitter Suffers Global Outage, Users Left Unable to Access the Platform
In a sudden and unexplained outage, Twitter, the popular microblogging platform owned by billionaire Elon Musk, experienced a global downtime on Wednesday morning. The issue left users unable to access the platform or its features on both mobile and web platforms.
According to Downdetector, a website that detects and monitors downtime activity, over 20,000 user reports were logged regarding the outage. The problems began around 8:46 am IST, with users encountering a “posts aren’t loading right now” message and being prompted to “try again.”
The outage was not limited to India, with reports of outages also observed in Canada (3,300 reports) and the UK (1,600 reports). The cause behind the downtime remains unknown, and Twitter has yet to acknowledge the issue.
Twitter users took to other social media platforms, including Threads, a rival microblogging service, to report the outage. One user jokingly wrote, “Finally a good place to look for an answer to the question ‘is Twitter down?'”
As per Downdetector, 68 percent of users encountered issues while accessing the app, 26 percent faced trouble on the website, and 6 percent reported server-related issues. Several Gadgets 360 staff members also experienced problems while accessing the Twitter app, confirming the outage in India.
This is not the first time Twitter has suffered an outage. On August 9, the platform experienced another outage, with over 7,000 complaints on Downdetector. The issue seemed to be concentrated in the US, and users took to other social media apps to report another glitch that caused all posts to be dated “Dec, 31, 1969.”
Twitter appears to be functioning normally again, with posts displaying on all feeds at around 9:15 am IST, nearly 30 minutes after users reported the service was inaccessible.
