Moghalu’s Resignation: A Sudden Exit for a Ruling Party

In a shocking turn of events, Dr. George Moghalu, a founding member and first National Auditor of Nigeria’s ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned from the party. According to reports, Moghalu tendered his resignation letter to his Uruagu Ward 1 chairman in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Tuesday. In the letter, he cited personal reasons as the basis for his decision.

This surprise resignation comes after months of speculation surrounding Moghalu’s future within the party. Although the former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority refrained from mentioning his next political move, he has been believed to be planning to contest the 2025 Anambra State governorship election under the APC.

APC Leadership Reacts to the Departure

In a statement, APC National Deputy Organising Secretary, Nze Duru, dismissed the resignation as a mere formality, claiming that Moghalu had long left the party. He went on to express good luck to Moghalu, saying the party respects his decision to leave. “These are people who benefited immensely from being in the party and now, for reasons best known to him, he decided to leave. We can only wish him luck,” Duru said.

Moghalu’s departure from the party might come as a setback to the APC, particularly ahead of the 2025 election. The party, however, believes it is on track to win the election, as seen in Ogemdi’s statement. “The APC has become a moving train in Anambra that has been repositioned to win the state governorship election in 2025.”

As the party waits for further clarification on Moghalu’s resignation, speculations about his future political endeavors are sure to continue. With the 2025 election looming, Moghalu’s exit may potentially shift the balance of power in the political landscape. Stay tuned for further updates on this story as it unfolds.
