Popcaan Publicly Declares Loyalty to Drake, Distancing Himself from Kendrick Lamar

During a recent interview with Link Up TV, reggae artist Popcaan sent a clear message about where his allegiances lie, swiftly redirecting a conversation about Kendrick Lamar by asking for the noise to be turned off. The dancehall sensation grew visibly annoyed when a track from K. Dot began blasting in the background, interrupting his discussion of his own career.

When the interviewer told Popcaan that the loud music was coming from the "surround sound upstairs," he politely refused to hear it, rebelling, "I don’t want that, change the station!" Showing the passion he has for his convictions, the singer rolled up his sleeves and flashed his OVO tattoo as he continued to express disdain for Lamar’s music.

Despite maintaining that he has a love-hate relationship with OVO, Popcaan reiterates that, regardless of his current label obligations, his loyalty remains with Drake, making his disinterest in Lamar very public.

Since joining OVO in 2018, Popcaan has showcased his dedication through tracks and collaborations. Most notably, the singer released music in collaboration with Drake, including music videos such as "We Ca Dunn."

In a discussion with Crack Magazine, Popcaan candidly shared, "The label can be weird sometimes." Confiding in the outlet that, for business reasons, he has concerns over October’s Very Own (OVO), he expressed gratitude yet discontent. "I’m in music, but I might say what I don’t wanna know sometimes. I love this vibe, I love the squad." But he also assures everyone, "I’ll be independent soon, too."
