Nigerian Army’s Successful Operations Neutralize Terrorists, Arrest Suspects
The Nigerian Army has made significant progress in combating terrorism and kidnapping in various states across the country. According to a statement released by the army on its social media platform, troops have successfully neutralized terrorists and arrested suspects connected to high-profile kidnappings.
One operation, which took place on August 27, 2024, involved the ambush of Boko Haram terrorists at Logomani village in Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State. During the ensuing exchange of fire, troops neutralized five terrorists and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and two bicycles.
In another operation, 11 Boko Haram fighters, along with their family members, voluntarily surrendered to the troops in Gwoza Local Government Area. Additionally, troops in Yobe State laid an ambush on the Boko Haram terrorist logistics supply route at Wulle village in Gujba Local Government Area, neutralizing two terrorists and recovering an FN rifle, a magazine, and a bicycle.
In Imo State, troops have successfully trailed and arrested four suspects connected to the kidnap of retired Major General Richard Duru. The suspects, who had attempted to bribe the troops with a sum of five million naira, were instead seized and found in possession of three vehicles, six laptops, and a cash-counting machine.
In Anambra State, troops apprehended a notorious member of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network, Sunday Ofordimze Asika, also known as Aboy Ekwensu. The suspect, who had been on security agencies’ watchlists, is part of a criminal syndicate terrorizing citizens of Ugu Npologu and Ezinifite communities in Aguta Local Government Area. Troops recovered six cartridges, five machetes, a laptop, a vehicle, and assorted charms from the suspect.
The army also announced the interception of an automated wooden boat used by armed criminals at Ikang village in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State. The suspects, who fled upon sighting the troops, abandoned a pump-action rifle, three cartridges, a 40 horsepower boat engine, and the sum of fifty thousand and five hundred naira. Troops recovered the abandoned items.
These successful operations have dealt a significant blow to terrorists’ activities in the affected communities and demonstrate the Nigerian Army’s commitment to keeping citizens safe.
