African Democratic Congress Slams Nigerian Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, accusing the Nigerian government of neglecting the country’s youth and wasting the nation’s resources on luxuries.

Speaking in Abuja while commissioning the ADC Youth Council, the party’s National Chairman, Chief Ralph Nwosu, lamented that the current administration is fixated on suppressing the youth and wasting the common patrimony on luxuries. He claimed that the government has no regard for the country’s young population, which makes up over 70% of the population.

Nwosu pointed out that while other nations are promoting youth engagement and employment through sports and policies designed to harness the creativity of youths, the Nigerian government is failing to do so. He noted that the country’s GDP is a mere $200 million, while seven companies, including Apple, Amazon, and Google, have annual turnovers that run into trillions of dollars.

The ADC chairman also drew a stark contrast between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia, which has articulated a clear vision for the future through the privatization of its state-owned oil company. In contrast, Nigeria’s government is still "gropping in the dark," he said.

Nwosu emphasized that the ADC Youth Council is being inaugurated to provide a platform for young people to come together and share innovative ideas for progress, not just in Nigeria but across the entire African continent. He urged the government to prioritize the development of the youth, rather than neglecting them.

The ADC’s criticism of the Renewed Hope Agenda is a significant blow to the government’s efforts to revitalize the country’s economy and promote youth engagement. The party’s call for the government to prioritize the development of the youth is likely to resonate with many Nigerians who feel that the current administration is out of touch with the needs and aspirations of the country’s young population.
