Chelsea Manager Enzo Maresca Praises Nicolas Jackson Amidst Pursuit of New Striker
In an exclusive interview, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed satisfaction with the performance of striker Nicolas Jackson, despite the club’s ongoing efforts to attract a more established goal-scorer.
The Blues are actively targeting Victor Osimhen, as well as Ivan Toney, with the aim of bolstering their squad before the summer transfer window closes. Jackson, a Ivory Coast international, has so far failed to meet expectations, delivering a disappointing goal return since his debut last summer.
Despite this, Maresca remains upbeat about his ability to lead the line for the foreseeable future. Speaking ahead of the crucial Europa Conference League play-off tie with Servette on Thursday, the former Leicester City boss praised Jackson’s current level of performance.
When quizzed about the club’s rumored pursuits of Osimhen and Toney, Maresca responded:
"I didn’t speak to Nicolas about this. I had a meeting with him yesterday, but just about the fantastic work he’s been doing for the team. I don’t think Nicolas needs a talk right now. He’s our striker at the moment, and we’re happy with the job he’s doing."
While reports from Italy suggest Chelsea’s enthusiasm for Osimhen remains palpable, Toney appears on the periphery, poised as cover in case their main targets decline. For now, it’s apparent that Maresca believes Nicolas Jackson has the potential to continue fulfilling Chelsea’s attacking requirements, rendering the need for an additional high-level striker less pressing.
