Benin Republic Coach Rohr Confident of Beating Super Eagles Again

Benin Republic head coach, Gernot Rohr, is optimistic that his side will emerge victorious against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. The match is set to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, September 7.

The Cheetahs, as they are known, have a recent advantage over their Nigerian counterparts, having defeated them 2-1 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in June. Rohr’s confidence stems from their recent success, as well as the fact that they have gained valuable experience from their previous encounters with the Super Eagles.

"It’s another rematch against Nigeria. It will be three more games with them [including the upcoming return match, counting for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers]," Rohr explained. "It’s a rematch against a very good team. But we have gained confidence and we know we can beat them."

The coach is expected to announce his squad for the match on Thursday, giving fans and pundits alike a glimpse into his team’s strategy and lineup for the crucial qualifier. With the stakes high and both teams vying for a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, this match promises to be an exciting encounter.

Will the Cheetahs be able to build on their recent success and secure a win against the Super Eagles? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium will be electric with excitement on September 7.
