APC Chairman Vows to Recapture Edo State
In a recent interview, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, expressed confidence in the party’s chances of recapturing Edo State in the upcoming September 21, 2024, Governorship Elections.
According to Ganduje, "Edo, which is coming on the 21st of September, I believe our campaign is in high spirits. We are getting ready for that election, and we believe we will be able to recover our state because it was an APC state, but due to internal wranglings, we lost it to the PDP. However, we are sure we will recover that state."
Ganduje also spoke about the upcoming election in Ondo State, emphasizing that it’s already an APC stronghold. He said, "As for Ondo State, it’s already an APC state, and after the former governor died with a number of problems, we were able to resolve those issues. We conducted primaries and succeeded in getting the person that they want."
The APC chairman highlighted that if the party wins Edo State, it will bring the number of states under their control to 21 out of 36. He also revealed plans to target Anambra State, which has been governed by the APGA party for years.
Ganduje also addressed the issue of alleged marginalization, stating that the phenomenon is self-created. "How can you have five states ruled by four political parties? What will be your political bargain?" he questioned.
The APC chairman expressed his concern that political parties in developing countries like Nigeria are often only active during election campaigns, instead of throughout the year. He emphasized the importance of internal democracy within the party to reduce tension and factions.
Ganduje also touched on the need for a connection between elected officials and those handling party affairs at the state and national levels. He urged governors to maintain close relationships with their state party structures.
The APC is committed to changing the narrative and being actively involved throughout the year, rather than only during election seasons. With Ganduje’s confidence in the party’s chances in Edo State, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to successfully recapture the state.
