Nigeria’s Economic Downturn Shows Signs of Recovery, Says Former Presidential Spokesperson
A former Presidential Spokesperson, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has expressed optimism that Nigeria’s struggling economy is beginning to show signs of recovery. Okupe, a former Director-General of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign Organisation, made this remark in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Okupe was reacting to criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government by Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, over the country’s socio-economic challenges. The group had expressed concern about the "near collapse" of the economy at its quarterly meeting in Ogun.
Okupe acknowledged that the current socio-economic conditions in the country are indeed challenging, but he believes that the strong and brave economic policies put in place are beginning to yield positive results.
"Nigeria’s economy is beginning to show signs of recovery, and it’s time for all hands to be on deck to support the administration in its efforts to revamp the economy," Okupe emphasized.
According to Okupe, Afenifere’s criticism of the government was "commendable" but belated, and he praised the group’s consistency in criticizing the government, despite a Yoruba man being the President of the country.
Okupe’s statement highlights the ongoing efforts to address the socio-economic challenges facing Nigeria, and his assessment of the economy’s recovery may signal a turning point for the country. However, only time will tell if these measures will be enough to overcome the numerous challenges facing the nation.
